Wherever there’s a church or monastery in Armenia (which is everywhere) you’ll find Khachkars — stone stele carved with a cross and other decorations. Many are used as gravestones or memorial markers but they can serve other commemorative purposes too. Some are simple but many are intricately carved with repeating geometric borders and motifs of flowers or birds.
One of the finest examples is found at the cathedral of Goshavank which I visited on a day trip from Dilijan. However after further research I seem to have photographed the wrong Khachkar!
