While passing the wedding cake exterior of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Hall I checked out the program and discovered that evening’s concert was a tribute to Leonard Bernstein. A short while later I sat in the Roccoco splendor of the main hall and enjoyed an evening of classical music which I thoroughly enjoyed although I admit I spent much of it tapping my feet waiting for them to bust out with a bit of Broadway. Obviously knowing how to please a crowd, the conductor ended the evening with an energetic rendition of West Side Story’s “America”. I was humming the tune for days afterwards.
