I tried my best to brush up on mythology during my tour of Greek antiquities. I’ve always been thoroughly impressed with someone who can instantly recognize a face on a vase or a creature on a mosaic and regale an audience with a fantastical tale to bring it to life. I didn’t reach anywhere near that level of expertise but I did occasionally get a thrill of recognition from a frieze or a sculpture. However I’m still trying to figure out if this is supposed to be Zeus or Poseidon. Handsome, well-toned, bearded men of a certain age seemed to abound the museums of Athens.
