Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus
Epidaurus, Greece

Every Greek ruin worth it’s salt has a theatre but the 14,000 seater at Epidaurus is a stunner. Seen from above it’s as if some mighty god carved a perfectly symmetrical ice-cream scoop out of the landscape. The design is not only takes prime advantage of the landscape it also produces near-perfect natural acoustics. Even the smallest sounds such as the lighting of a match can be heard flawlessly by spectators in the nose-bleed seats 54 rows up. Scientists are still arguing over whether the acoustics are the result of a fluke, brilliant engineering or divine intervention. My votes on the latter.
