The continued delay in obtaining a visa for Iran left me time for an unplanned detour around mainland Greece. My first stop was Salonica — now known as Thessaloníki. Here in the Archeological Museum is a collection of exquisite gold pieces from ancient Macedonia, home of Alexander the Greek. Some of the pieces like this crown just keep getting more lovely the more you stare at them.
