Erzurum was just too cold for an extended stay. Instead I escaped across the Kaçkar mountains through the Zigana Pass (2025m) and down towards the Black Sea. My destination was the once-fabled city of Trebizond – now a rather flash port city with little to recommend it except an extra few degrees of warmth and the possibility of a seafood dinner.
