The theatre at Pergamon was said to have the steepest seating of any in the Ancient world. The view from the top looking down past the seats to the sea is dizzying enough. Trying to navigate safely down the 80 rows of seating to the stage 120 vertical feet below is treacherous at best. At least I tried it in the company of a few dozen other tourists, not the 10,000 spectators that would have surrounded me had I been there in Pergamon’s heyday.
