The Gothic Revival facade of the Hungarian House of Parliament shows more than a passing resemblance to the Palace of Westminster, sitting as it does on the banks of the River Danube. Of course both buildings share a common function – a meeting place for civic leaders and swarms of foreign tourists. There are, however, notable differences – the Budapest building’s architectural focal point is an ornate central dome rather than a clock tower. Also, to my knowledge, Big Ben never sported an enormous red star atop it. (The star in question was removed from the steeple above the Hungarian Parliament post-1989.)
