Alexander Nevski Cathedral
Sofia, Bulgaria

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a relatively modern edifice having been built at the turn of the 20th century. It’s one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches in the world and is arguably Sofia’s chief attraction. Despite it’s youth, the marble interior under the many vaulted domes renders a deceivingly old world feel.

The park outside offers a less majestic but admittedly more fun slice of history in the form of a open-air flea market stocked with communist era memorabilia, rusty bits of metal and handmade lace doilies.
