The old town in Salzburg is perhaps the most pristinely beautiful city I’ve ever seen. It’s packed with tourists but somehow the civilizing influence of the Austrian people seems to be contagious and everything is simply – civilized.
There’s a castle on a hill, several palaces, umpteen churches, no shortage of museums and of course the river running through it all. The over-the-top baroque style isn’t usually my cup of tea but it’s impossible not to be awed by the grandeur of it all.
